Our story

A workshop built around the watch, not around the sale.

Who we are

Chang Watchworks started with a single workbench and a long list of watches people had stopped wearing.

The workshop opened quietly on Silom Road in Bang Rak, Bangkok, run by Nattawut Siriporn — a watchmaker who spent years working alongside more experienced technicians before taking on repairs independently. The name Chang reflects the Thai word for artisan or craftsperson, a word that sits well with the slow, methodical nature of this work.

There was no grand opening and no advertising campaign. The first customers came from the neighbourhood — office workers on Silom, shopkeepers from nearby lanes, and a few people from the hotel district who had inherited watches they did not know what to do with. Word moved along, and the workshop grew at its own unhurried pace.

Today Chang Watchworks handles quartz battery services, hand and dial refreshing, and complete mechanical servicing for automatics. The list of services is short on purpose. Doing fewer things well feels more worthwhile than doing many things adequately.

Our approach

The watch guides the work. The customer decides the rest.

When a watch arrives at the workshop, we look at it honestly. Sometimes it needs exactly what the owner suspected. Sometimes it needs less. Occasionally it needs more — and in those cases, we explain what we found and let the owner decide how to proceed. Nothing moves forward without agreement on cost and scope.

We work on quartz watches and mechanical automatics. Each category has its own rhythm. A quartz battery service is usually finished the same day. A complete mechanical service needs two to three weeks — time for proper disassembly, cleaning, lubrication, and testing, with a timing report at the end.

"The goal is for the watch to leave here running better than it came in — and for the owner to understand what was done and why."

— Nattawut Siriporn, Watchmaker

What guides us

Three values we return to every day.

Honesty

We tell people what we find, not what we think they want to hear. If a service is not needed, we say so. No unnecessary work is ever carried out.

Care

Each watch is handled with the same attention it would receive if it belonged to someone we knew well. Cases are protected. Original character is preserved where possible.

Patience

Good watchwork takes the time it needs. We do not rush to meet a number. We keep the customer informed and finish when the work is properly done.

The people

A small team, each with a role they take seriously.

NS

Nattawut Siriporn

Lead Watchmaker

Nattawut has been working with mechanical and quartz movements for over fourteen years. He handles all complete mechanical services and the more detailed quartz inspections.

PL

Patchara Lertpong

Service Technician

Patchara focuses on quartz battery services and initial assessments. Careful and methodical, she handles the day-to-day servicing that keeps the workshop moving steadily.

KT

Krit Thongdee

Client Liaison

Krit is usually the first person a customer speaks to. He handles enquiries, status updates, and collection — making sure communication stays clear and unhurried throughout.

How we work

Standards we apply to every job, regardless of size.

Case and Crystal Protection

Movement and case are handled separately. Protective covers are fitted wherever there is risk of surface contact during work.

Seal Check on Every Service

After reassembly, we check case seals are properly seated. This applies to both quartz and mechanical services.

Timing Verification

Mechanical services include timing measurements before and after, with results provided in the collection report given to the owner.

Written Service Notes

Every watch leaves with a brief written record of the work carried out, any parts used, and a suggested next service interval.

Agreed Pricing Before Work

No work proceeds until the customer has agreed to the quoted price. Any unexpected findings are communicated before additional work is carried out.

Secure Storage During Service

Watches left for multi-day services are stored in labelled, individually compartmented trays in a locked cabinet overnight.

Watchmaking in Bangkok

A trade that depends on patience and accumulated knowledge.

Watch servicing is one of those trades where experience accumulates slowly and matters a great deal. There are no shortcuts to recognising the particular wear pattern of a mainspring that has not been lubricated in fifteen years, or to knowing when a dial can be freshened without disturbing its original finish. These things take time and repetition to learn.

In Bangkok, the humid climate adds a layer of consideration that does not apply in drier regions. Moisture finds its way into movements through ageing seals, and the effects build quietly over years. A watch that appears to be running normally may already be carrying moisture-related wear inside the case. This is one reason we include a seal check with every service — not as an upsell, but because it is genuinely relevant to watches kept in this climate.

Chang Watchworks is located on Silom Road in Bang Rak, within walking distance of Sala Daeng BTS station. We are open Monday through Saturday from 10 in the morning until 7 in the evening. Walk-ins are welcome for assessments and straightforward quartz services. For mechanical work, a short message ahead of time helps us prepare.

We handle watches from everyday quartz models through to well-worn automatics with complex movements. We do not handle smartwatches, digital watches, or watches requiring manufacturer-specific proprietary tools. If we cannot help, we say so plainly and suggest where the owner might find the right person for the job.
